Building Character Through Sports

The Athletics program at Boys Home of Virginia focuses on building character and leadership through sports. We offer soccer in the fall and spring seasons and basketball in the winter. Participation in these sports provides students with opportunities to develop teamwork, discipline, and resilience.

Through rigorous training and competition, students learn valuable sportsmanship, commitment, and leadership lessons. The program promotes physical fitness and emphasizes character development, helping students grow into well-rounded individuals both on and off the field.

Hands-On Learning Through Nature

In addition to the core classes, Boys Home School offers equine enrichment and agricultural classes. These courses are crucial for the overall development of our students, offering hands-on learning experiences that teach responsibility, empathy, and teamwork. Working with horses and participating in agricultural activities helps students build confidence and develop problem-solving skills.

These activities also provide therapeutic benefits, aiding in the healing process from past traumas by fostering connections with animals and nature. Additionally, equine and agricultural education instill a strong work ethic and an appreciation for the environment, preparing students for future careers and contributing to their well-being and personal growth.

Learning Through Outdoor Programs

The outdoor program at Boys Home of Virginia provides students with unique and enriching experiences through various outdoor activities. Set against the scenic backdrop of our 1,200-acre campus in the Alleghany Highlands, the program includes hiking, kayaking, and fishing outings both on and off campus.

These activities allow students to connect with nature, develop physical fitness, and cultivate a sense of adventure. The outdoor program promotes teamwork, self-confidence, and an appreciation for the natural environment. Students gain valuable life skills by participating in these pursuits and creating lasting memories in a supportive and inspiring setting.

The Boys Home Mission
"When you choose the Boys Home program, you are making a good decision. At the time, it was a heartbreaking and difficult decision but it's what my son needed. I knew he would be safe there. At home, he was beginning to go down the wrong path and was hanging out with the wrong crowd. I knew he needed a different environment, but I didn't want him to be too far from home. When we took a tour, I was surprised at how much it felt like a home and the grounds were beautiful. After being in the program for just over a year, he was more respectful, had better manners, and was mature enough to repair the family relationship that had been damaged. My son graduated from the Boys Home School in May 2024. He is now in Air Force boot camp in Texas. I am so proud of the man he has become."
